In the last few years the technological development has improved either the technique for representing the reality, using Architecture, or the dominant idea that teaching Geometry has to be improved too. What we can do today is to investigate this idea, in order to better understand what changes in teaching have to be made and the role of geometry as a tool of research.
At the University of Firenze, Geometry has always had a central role in the coursework, and a great importance. This is why an interesting analysis of the role of Geometry has started from Firenze itself. We expect that different ideas can update the use of Geometry either in teaching or in research; hence the Conference should be divided in two sessions, regarding these bigger classes, but also different topics should be analyzed, as elementary geometry, or the relation between geometry and computer.
I think that we do have the opportunity to redefine the use of Geometry, and to point out how much it is worth for an Architect, as a professional, teacher, or researcher. The question we have to answer is pretty wide, and I hope that there will be the right space during the talks about area ICAR 17.
